Is Droid Depot worth it?

droid building at WDW Galaxy’s Edge Droid Depot

During our last trip to WDW, my son and Husband participated in building a droid at Droid Depot. Prior to our trip, I reserved a time slot to arrive so we would not have to wait to participate in the experience. When we arrived at Droid Depot, there were two lines, one for people who had reservations and those who did not. The builder and only one other person were allowed where the building takes place, but the whole thing is open, and I was able to see them as they worked through the process from the gift shop area. They only had to wait a couple of minutes in line before they were able to start their build. The choice of droid to build is between a R-series or a BB-series droid. After paying for the droid ($99.99 plus tax), they guided them over to a conveyor belt to pick out parts for which they can pick from an array of colors, then they moved over to a build station to assemble the droid. After assembly, the droid is activated and paired with a remote control and tested to make sure it works. The whole process takes about 30 minutes. My son enjoyed the process of building his droid and highly recommends it. I liked that the droid is a toy that can actually be played with and not a display piece. The droid comes with a cardboard carrying case or you can purchase a backpack at an additional charge. I think that Droid Depot is also worth it as the droid just by itself is worth the price charged. We brought the droid home on the plane as a carry-on if you were wondering how to get it home.

Disney now has an app that you can pair to your droid unit. This app will take the place of your remote control and you can also use it to program a dance sequence for your droid.
