Hyatt Centric Key West Resort and Spa review

We started our stay in Key West by arriving on a Sunday afternoon January 31, 2021 at Hyatt Centric Key West Resort and Spa. During our stay in Key West, it was mandatory to wear mask in all public places both inside and outside, other than sitting down to eat and drink or on the beach and at the pool. I booked our stay on points directly with Hyatt. I love the Hyatt app by the way. It is very easy to use and the day we were scheduled to check in, I received a notification that I could check in on the app. I logged in and notified them of the approximate time we would arrive and the app showed us when our room was ready and what room number. When we arrived, I had our room number in the app and tried to use the mobile key to open the gate to get to self parking, but that didn’t work, so I went in to get a room key card. The staff was very nice during our entire stay. When I checked in at the desk, I was offered the opportunity to upgrade our room for $25 per night to a partial ocean view and I did it! During our stay, we were taking advantage of a promotion that offered free parking, so I thought what the heck and try out the room upgrade. Later during our stay, I was in the lobby while a guest was checking in and the guest inquired about upgrades. None were available at that time, so don’t count on being able to upgrade your room if you book a standard room. At check in, they also gave me our parking pass and 2 flutes of champagne. We loaded up a luggage cart and went to our room. Outside the main lobby, you will pass the turtles in their habitat on the way to your room.

The rooms are off exterior hallways that over look the central courtyard with the pool , hot tub and lounge area. Occasionally, the elevator that was closest to our room had issues with going up to the floor for us the go down and we took the stairs a couple of times.

Below is a photo gallery of our room. As far as room amenities, I really like the Chromecast feature on the TV and used that with my Disney+ subscription and app on my phone. The bath was lovely and I liked the rain shower head and the hand-held shower head. The sides of the tub are very high and those with mobility issues should request a room with accommodations. The shower soap and shampoo are in large dispensers in the shower enclosure. The coffee pot in room uses the K-cups if you are particular about your brand of coffee and want to bring your own.

I was happy with our room view. The view we had over looks the Galleon Resort next door to the right of Hyatt, in case you were wondering. Lagerheads Beach Bar is on the left side of Hyatt Centric and beyond that is the Pier House.

After settling in, I took a quick look around the resort. Below is the beach lounge area with steps down to the water. There is a platform you can swim out to with two lounge chairs. The bottom photo is the area that the steps lead down to for swimming out to the platform.

Looking back at the pool area

I then walked on to the sun deck area surrounding The Shor restaurant. Below are some additional lounge areas and some outdoor seating available at the restaurant.

That evening we enjoyed swimming at the resort before heading out to dinner. The next morning we had breakfast at the Shor restaurant and it was very good. That day we went to sight see and spend the day at Fort Zachary Taylor and Beach. That evening we ate at the Blue Mojito, the bar restaurant at the resort. We had them prepare our fresh catch from our fishing trip we did up in Marathon. We had it prepared two ways, blackened and fried and it was delicious. I was so happy that the food on-site is very good. Below is a photo of our fish.

The next morning we were scheduled to take the ferry to Dry Tortugas, but our trip was cancelled due to weather. That gave me some extra time to explore on my own that afternoon. The resort really is in a great spot for sightseeing in Key West. It is within walking distance of the tour trolley and Mallory Square. Below are some photos of the Mallory Square area.

Final thoughts on this resort are that you really can’t go wrong with your stay here using Hyatt points. If you were paying cash, it might get expensive with your room rate plus resort and parking fees. Key West is not really a budget stay without using points. Below is one final photo of the resort at dusk.

Stay tuned for my next post about our visit to Fort Zachary Taylor and Beach.
